Arts venue drawn to mission of Blue Jacket Staffing

The Embassy Theatre, a landmark venue in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, is giving Blue Jacket Staffing rave reviews as the theatre’s new janitorial services provider.

Blue Jacket began servicing the contract last March, employing a 5-person team that consists of 2 full-time permanent crew leaders and 3 positions that are staffed on a transitional basis for 30 to 90 days, to prepare candidates for competitive external job placements. Already, 15 individuals have used the transitional cleaning crew jobs as a springboard to temp-to-hire and direct hire job opportunities.

Blue Jacket also supplies the Embassy with event support staff, mainly to help with set-up and tear-down for private event rentals, concerts and other shows.

According to Embassy Theatre executive director Kelly Updike, “Blue Jacket’s mission and commitment to the community aligns perfectly with the Embassy’s service philosophy.” Adds Tony Hudson, executive director of Blue Jacket, “The Embassy’s vision to provide the indelible and historic asset of the theatre as a place to employ people wanting to prove their worth is a testament to the Embassy’s leadership.”

Seeking to deepen their partnership, the Embassy has begun offering heavily discounted tickets that enable Blue Jacket’s entire workforce to experience performances as theatre-goers. The Embassy introduced this benefit in October with a show by Black Violin, two classically trained string instrumentalists that perform hip hop, jazz and funk.

Annually, Blue Jacket Staffing places 115 graduates of its Career Academy with some 30 local companies, mainly in production, warehousing, property services, and hospitality jobs. Its candidate pool, originally focused on individuals reentering after incarceration, has expanded to include any disadvantaged job seeker.
