New Member: UpStaff Personnel, Asheville, North Carolina

The Alliance welcomes new member UpStaff Personnel, an enterprise of Green Opportunities (GO!) in Asheville, North Carolina!

UpStaff Personnel targets large volume accounts with temp-to-hire opportunities including Biltmore Farms Hotels, the City of Asheville, and the City’s Housing Authority. GO! has operated its staffing business for five years, and prioritized its growth in 2017 as a recipient of the Mountain BizWorks Scale Up Initiative award. UpStaff Personnel is on track to generate nearly $700,000 in fee revenues this fiscal year, more than doubling the previous year’s sales.

In addition to UpStaff Personnel, GO! runs two other employment social enterprises, Southside Kitchen Catering and Southside Woodworks that help to fulfill its mission to “train, support, and connect people from marginalized communities to sustainable employment pathways.” Job-ready individuals who complete a 24-hour soft skills training may be immediately placed into jobs via UpStaff Personnel, or may enter a culinary or construction skills training track. All GO! participants receive a full year of case management and wraparound services.

Led by Joseph “J” Hackett, GO! is also a member of Catalyst Kitchens’ national network of food service social enterprises. J Hackett will join with Justin Smith from Catalyst Kitchens at our annual conference in June to present a clinic about their culinary job training model, UpStaff Personnel’s role in employing GO!’s food service trainees and graduates, and opportunities for ASOs and their parent organizations to collaborate with Catalyst Kitchens.
