“This is a dream job. My life has changed 100 percent.”

Last year after his release from prison, Darnell Wood was living in a homeless shelter while struggling to find a job. Today, thanks to First Step Staffing and Mr. Wood’s strong work ethic and professionalism, he’s working full-time as a supervisor for a company that works for the Atlanta Braves and their home field SunTrust Park. He recently earned a promotion and was named “employee of the month,” is renting a house and plans to buy a car.

A recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution article describes Mr. Wood’s journey over the past year, and First Step’s important role employing homeless and other disadvantaged job seekers while helping employers like the Atlanta Braves find talent.

Greg Block founded First Step Staffing in 2007 as a social enterprise strategy to address homelessness and jobs, identified as the City’s most pressing issues by then-Mayor Shirley Franklin. Today, First Step manages a daily workforce of some 1,000 people and employs 3,750 people annually.
