Activate uses direct placement model for career track employment

Member Activate Workforce Solutions in Denver began operating late last year, and is using a direct placement model to connect qualified entry-level candidates with job opportunities in advanced manufacturing, construction and financial services. Employers pay a flat fee per placement, and Activate provides three months of weekly coaching to newly hired individuals.

Activate likewise invests a lot of energy into the pre-placement process, carefully selecting candidate referral partners and then working closely with them to screen and train candidates in a process that builds personal connections with each person placed. So far, the enterprise has signed on nine referral program partners.

Activate is targeting 30 to 40 candidate placements this year with five employer partners, while seeking additional employer customers that share its values and offer good entry-level wages and opportunities for advancement. Average starting wages are in the $14 per hour range, plus benefits.

A key element of the enterprise’s candidate screening, coaching and job matching is a data-driven assessment tool developed by PAIRIN. A brief, web-based activity measures candidates’ behavioral skills and identifies soft skills gaps to guide individualized coaching and retention support.

Founder and CEO Helen Young Hayes notes that the retention piece has demanded more time and attention than expected, to address personal crises mainly related to commuting and family challenges. Their candidates’ immense growth, drive and promise, though, far outweigh those hurdles and continue to inspire her team and keep them energized.
