The Alliance welcomes Juma Ventures, founded in 1993 in San Francisco, and today providing staffing services in nine cities nationwide. Juma employs young adults (ages 18-21) while also providing them with soft skills certification, money management training, career exploration and life supports designed to position them for long-term success.

Juma recruits and hires candidates willing to make a six-month commitment, placing them in food and beverage concessions, retail sales and facilities maintenance within professional sports and entertainment venues and convention centers. The enterprise has contracts with NFL, NBA, MLB and MLS venues in San Francisco, San Jose/Santa Clara, Oakland, Sacramento, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Atlanta.

Currently, Juma is working to increase candidates’ work hours and opportunities by expanding its staffing services to other industries, including warehouse/logistics, hospitality and healthcare.

Richard Martinez, Chief of Social Enterprise is leading this effort and has set ambitious goals for growth. In 2017, Juma expects to grow its earned revenues from $1.4 million to over $3 million and increase its young adult workforce from 900 to 1,200. As he pursues new business opportunities, Richard is eager to learn from and collaborate with fellow alternative staffing practitioners.
